Leadership is a journey. It is filled with new challenges that cause you to evolve as a leader. I had a chance to sit down with Lolly Daskal, author of The Leadership Gap: What Gets Between You and Your Greatness. Lolly shares insights to take your leadership to a new level. After listening to this interview, you will want to dive deeper into Lolly’s work.
Target Audience: Lolly is a Leadership Executive Coach and Business Consultant, a speaker and an author. She writes for Harvard Business Review Inc Psychology Today as well as others publications. She serves Fortune 500 leaders/entrepreneurs and startups.
So, Why Did You Have to Write this Book:
Lolly shares that she was approached by people who requested it. She knew she had to serve them. Publications asked her to write about what she had been teaching. At that time, it was about the RETHINK model. And so, the book entitled, “The Leadership Gap: What Gets Between You and Your Greatness” was born. Get it HERE The book is a positive spin on Leadership. Lolly believes there is always something we can do to stand in our greatness
My Message is Different than Most:
Most books are about HOW and WHAT, WHEN or even WHY. Lolly believes WHO you are while you are leading is far more important than any of that other stuff. If the foundational work is correct, we can lead from WITHIN. If you don’t have yourself in check- the other stuff won’t fall into place. The book is about BEING- WHO are you BEING? The book will help you discover who you are.
For every archetype there is a shadow. When you acknowledge this, there is an inner awareness that is created which helps you develop an inner coach. That inner coach catches those moments where you can ask yourself- who are you being? It is also about not letting certain archetypes (dysfunctional ones) get in the way of your greatness.
Leveraging Fear:
Confidence comes from knowing your capabilities and competence. Confidence is believing you are able. Competence is knowing you are able. Once you know what you are able, you can build on that. At the end of the day, make a list of all the things you have done well. This daily habit can cause you to move mountains!
Important Tip: Stop comparing yourself to others. Only Measure yourself against yourself. Have an inner circle (a fanclub) – who can reflect back to you your talents and skills.
The inner critic exists because there are parts of us that wants to please people, and want to be perfect. Many might believe that Greatness is destined for only a few. The truth is it is available to anyone. It is about making a choice.
In this episode we’ll cover:
- Knowing your shadow side
- Why greatness is a possibility for all
- Why WHO you are being sets the foundation
- Handling that inner critic
- 2 daily rituals that can change your world
Practical and Actionable:
Every morning (before the day begins) writes about what you grateful for. Jot down all the things that are working. Create the balance with the tough stuff going on out there. This sets the day off right. People forget they are masters at what they do. Remind yourself of what you are great at. Make that list of what you did well that day. You’ll start to see things happening different in your life.
